Houses
The House System
The house system is a traditional feature of schools in England and has been adapted in the United States. The school is divided into subunits called "houses" and each student is assigned to one house at the moment of enrollment. During 2018-2019, our first year to participate, we hosted a "house reveal" party at the beginning of the year. The students were divided into their groups and then given cupcakes. The inside of the cupcake revealed the color of their house.
Now we have the House Draft at the beginning of the year for the new students. Once a student is assigned to a house, the student will remain in the same house for the duration of their time at our school.
Our house names are Swahili words for the virtues we want our students to embrace. Each house is identified by its own symbol, logo, and color.
